Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made porcelain shells that conceal imperfections in your teeth. If you don’t like the color, shape, or size of your teeth, veneers are a versatile solution for a flawless smile. Advanced materials ensure veneers look identical to your natural teeth, matching their shade and reflecting light like your enamel.

I do not like how my teeth look. Can veneers help?

Veneers can hide a wide range of common cosmetic dental concerns, including:

  • Discoloration and staining
  • Chipped or fractured teeth
  • Irregular tooth size or shape
  • Gaps and spaces between teeth
  • Mild misalignment or crookedness
  • Worn-down enamel
  • Uneven tooth surfaces
  • Teeth with a pitted or rough texture

With veneers, you can enjoy whiter, straighter, more uniform teeth that enhance your smile and boost self-confidence.

What is the veneer process like?

Veneers typically take 2-3 visits to plan, create, and place. The process includes a few simple steps:

Consultation

During the initial consultation, Dr. Park and her team assess your teeth, review your concerns, and discuss your goals to determine whether you’re a good candidate for veneers.

Preparation

It’s crucial to remove a small portion of enamel to ensure veneers blend seamlessly with your teeth. After shaping your enamel, the team takes digital impressions using the sophisticated iTero® intraoral scanner. These impressions help create your custom veneers.

Temporary veneers

Temporary veneers protect and conceal your teeth, while an outside lab creates your permanent veneers. You may wear the temporary veneers for 2-3 weeks before returning to Park Dental NYC.

Permanent placement

The team places your veneers during your final visit. After removing the temporary veneers, they clean and etch your teeth. Next, they apply a solution to cement the permanent veneers. Dr. Ng-A-Fook can make any necessary adjustments to shape them.

Should I get veneers or teeth whitening?

The choice between veneers and teeth whitening depends on your specific needs. Veneers can address multiple cosmetic imperfections, like stains, chips, and misalignment, while teeth whitening primarily improves tooth color.

Veneers are more expensive than teeth whitening, but they also last longer and are resistant to stains. With proper care, veneers can deliver bright, white teeth for over ten years.
